Find My Child

Thu Zar Win

Posted by P on 13 December 2011

Thu Zar Win's first ten years of life have been difficult, to say the least. After her father contracted HIV, passing away in 2005 followed by her mother in 2006, she and her younger sister Cherry Win were taken to Love Children's Home by villagers. On 14th December 2011 she will travel a long way from her home to start a 21 day period of treatment, including surgery, that will hopefully correct her lack of proper binocular vision. Children in developed countries undergo this treatment far earlier, as this usually guarantees full correction. However, if left untreated the brain compensates for the weakness of the eye muscles, in effect learning to cope with it as it is. Ten years of age is generally thought of as being the upper limit where treatment may succeed.

Thu Zar Win lacks confidence and appears self-conscious and detached at times, though you would not think so in this photo, and although there is a large degree of uncertainty as to the success of the treatment regarding her vision, we took the decision to try and help her anyway, so at the very least she will think of herself as being beautiful in her own eyes. In our eyes and in God's eyes she is beautiful already.

Please pray for Thu Zar Win, especially from the 14th as she has a difficult journey and sustained period of treatment ahead of her. I look forward to posting an update in due course.
